About us
In 1965 I left my native France for what I thought would be a short spell in Ireland with the intention of improving my English and a year later, married my Irish husband. Another two years and in 1968, my other half, Jimmy, having to work often late hours, we thought it might be a good idea to get a dog to keep me company. “Dutch” our first keeshond joined our family after we answered an ad. in a national paper. He was one of a group of four dogs needing to be rehomed when the owner’s wife became seriously ill. I was told of the particularly acute hearing of the breed, a bonus to any young wife home by herself! However, to our dismay, we soon realized that this potentially great watch dog was stone deaf! Anyway this really did not matter as Dutch was a lovely dog with the affection, loyalty and other endearing qualities of a typical keeshond. He left us after eight wonderful years. Some time later we decided we would like another keeshond and, as we could not find one in Ireland, we brought one in from England. This was in 1977.His breeder was Brian Curry who persuaded us to start showing and this was the beginning of the story……. “Hector” did well enough in the ring to encourage us to continue and in 1978 we imported a bitch, bred by Miss. L. Cooper. She was Susannah of Utrecht, a daughter of Gb.ch. Surprise of Ven and she went on to do quite a bit of winning, gaining her Irish title and later on, having the distinction of becoming the first keeshond to go BIS. at an all breed ch. show in Ireland. This was in 1980 and by then, we were truly hooked. We bred on average a litter every two years mainly for ourselves with priority being to breed good, healthy, sound dogs with correct temperament. Our breeding has included such bloodlines as Swashway, Gavimir and Neradmik, from which our current dogs are directly descended. Showing dogs really became a family affair when our daughter Nathalie decided to start showing herself with her own bichons frises, competing in the breed and in junior handling. She won the Irish final and with it, the honor of representing Ireland at Crufts in 1985,where she took 1st place and the title of International Junior Handler of the year. Although we have taken a back seat for the last few years and are no longer active in the show ring, we are keeping an interest in the breed with our friend and associate, Cecil Finn. Showing dogs has also led the way to judging and has taken me all over the world , as far away as Australia. I am an FCI judge of approx. 75 breeds, a BIS judge in Ireland, and have received the accolade of being asked to judge the Keeshond Club Ch. Show 2008 in the UK. The Future I am no longer breeding, but I am happy to say that our lovely boy Deminiac the Parisien, or Jacques to his friends, has recently become a dad. Mum is Sturtmor Crazy for Neradmik. We are looking forward to his son ’s debut and the best of luck to: Neradmik French by Design, owned by Carol Mundy, We are also happy to say that our beautiful Sally is behind the breeding of some of Sweden’s top keeshonds and wish continued success to their progeny.
